The film won "Best film" at the 2003 Stockholm International Film Festival.

For years, Schultze has played traditional polka music on his accordion, but a series of upheavals in his life inspire an interest in American Zydeco and Cajun music. Though being afraid of travelling to the United States at the beginning he accepts his music club's wish to represent it at a German folk music festival in New Braunfels, Texas.

The Venice Biennale is a major contemporary art exhibition that takes place once every two years (in odd years) in Venice, Italy. The Venice Film Festival and the Venice Biennale of Architecture, which is held in even years are also a part of the Venice Biennale.
