Drenthe, Netherlands

Drenthe

The sender writes:
This is a card from Drenth, a province in the Netherlands.  We have got a lot of nice nature here, as you can see on this card.

This is postmarked in 2014 with two Netherlands stamps.

In 2014 Drenthe had a population of 488,957 and a total area of 2,683 km2 (1,036 sq mi).

Drenthe  has been populated by people since prehistory. Most tangible evidence of this are the dolmens (graves, tombs) built around 3500 BC.

My work requires me to travel a lot and I’ve been fortunate to visit many Asian and South American countries. I’ve been to Europe on two occasions only and both were in Britain. The truth is, one of the countries I have always wanted to visit in Europe is Italy and the Netherlands. I have old friends actually that have permanently moved to Rotterdam, whom I want to visit, but also, as a bridge architect, I want to see how the Dutch incorporated technology and architecture in their dikes and levees. I even have windmill stamps from the Netherlands which I had framed because I really admire their ingenuity in constructing what is believed to be by many as the safest levee system in the world.

Hello Kevin, I hope you make it there some day! I've not yet been to the Netherlands, but via Postcrossing.com I have many beautiful postcards from there. I have been to a few places in Italy and I can say for certain, it is a beautiful country.
