Three Postcard of the Seattle Space Needle in Washington

Space Needle

Nestled in the Seattle Center, a 74-acre city park that was built for the 1962 Century 21 Exposition, is the Space Needle, the result of a vision shared by Jim Douglas, of the Westin Hotel, and Eddie Carlson, the World's Fair chairman.  Inspired by a television tower seen in Stuttgart, Germany, the 605 foot Space Needle has become the symbol of Seattle.

A 43-second elevator ride takes visitors to the observation platform at the 520 foot level for a spectacular view of the city, Puget Sound, the Cascade and Olympic Mountain ranges, as well as Mount Rainier, 60 miles to the southeast.

Dine at "the Needle's," revolving restaurant found at the 500 foot level, where diners not only enjoy the many Northwest delights fond on the menu, but also take in the panoramic view as the restaurant slowly turns 360 degrees each and every hour.

Bosworth Battlefield Country Park in England

Standard of Richard III
Standard of Henry Tudor
Standard of Lord thomas Stanley

Bosworth Battlefield Country Park

This is postmarked from England with two Great Britain stamps.

- - - - - - - - -

The Battle of Bosworth was the penultimate battle of the Wars of the Roses, the civil war between the House of Lancaster and the House of York that raged across England in the latter half of the 15th century. Fought on 22 August 1485, the battle was won by the Lancastrians. Their leader Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, became the first English monarch of the Tudor dynasty by his victory and subsequent marriage to a Yorkist princess. His opponent Richard III, the last king of the House of York, was killed in the battle. Historians consider Bosworth Field to mark the end of the Plantagenet dynasty, making it one of the defining moments of English history.

Soldiers from the Navy or Coast Guard, The Great White Fleet?

There is no description on this real photo postcard. The stamp box reads: 'Velox, Place Stamp here'.  This style of stamp box was used from 1907 to 1917.

I asked a friend of mine who is in the Navy what she thought, here is her reply...

Definitely Navy.... Sometimes when they worked they would modify the uniform.. The "hat" is called a dixie cup and in this picture some have it flipped up like Popeye and others have it flipped down like a safari hat...

Also, a few of them tucked their bellbottom pants into their socks and boots to make it easier to work...

It looks like they may be in Australia with the origin natives... Aborigines... Im guessing on that one..

- - - - - - -

On December 16, 1907 Teddy Roosevelt dispatched sixteen U.S. Navy battleships of the Atlantic Fleet on a worldwide voyage that lasted until February 22, 1909.  These ships would later come to be known as the Great White Fleet. On August 20, 1908 they landed in Australia.  I wonder if this postcard is from then????

Elvis Presley's Lisa Marie Airplane

Elvis' Lisa Marie
Elvis Presley purchased this aircraft a few years back and had extensive interior changes made.  The "TCB" logo on the tail has become known world-wide as well as the aircraft's registration number N880EP.  Elvis named this plane after his daughter, Lisa-Marie and it is now open to the public across from Graceland.

This postcard was printed in 2003 and postmarked in 2015 with two USA stamps.  One of them is an Elvis stamp!

The sender (Postcards and Road Trips) writes:
I've been to visit Graceland but have never toured the jet.  Sadly, the two jets that Elvis owned, "Lisa Marie and "Hound Dog II" were offered up for sealed bid auction.  I hope they stay at Graceland, no matter what!

The Hartland Bridge in New Brunswick, Canada

Hartland Bridge
New Brunswick

The Hartland Bridge is the longest covered bridge in the world at 1,282 ft.

This is postmarked in 2011 with a Canada fox stamp.

- - - - - - -

Before the bridge, the only way to cross the Saint John River was by ferry.

The bridge was constructed in 1901.  The bridge was not originally built covered.

A fire in 1907 burnt some of the structure and nearly destroyed the toll house.

On April 6, 1920, two spans of the bridge collapsed due to river ice. The bridge reopened in 1922 after construction to repair the structure, at which time the bridge was also covered.

A pedestrian walkway was added to the bridge in 1945.

The bridge was declared a National Historic Site of Canada in 1980, and a Provincial Historic Site in 1999.

In 1982, the bridge was again closed for repairs after a car struck a steel beam, causing part of the bridge to drop. The bridge was reopened to traffic on February 10, 1983.

In the winter of 2007, the bridge was closed due to the central beam splitting down the middle. It has since been reopened after repairs were carried out.
