Fort George is located on the promontory to the west of the harbor.  It was built in 1705 by the French.  As of now many of the buildings are used by the police.

Much of the fort is still intact and open to visitors. However, the buildings are very dilapidated, from a combination of Hurricane damage and neglect.

This 'H.S. Crocker' postcard is unused.

A Divi-divi tree (Libidibia coriaria) is native to the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and northern South America.

They rarely reach their maximum height of 9 m (30 ft) because the growth is twisted and bent out of shape by the trade winds that batter the coastal sites where it often grows.

The Flag of The Bahamas

Bahamas
Greetings from the Bahamas!
Photo: Werner J. Bertsch

(The white stripe and flower are not part of the flag design.)

This postcard is postmarked in 2017.

- - - - - - -

The colors of the flag carry cultural, political, and regional meanings. The gold alludes to the golden sand and the shining sun– as well as other key land-based natural resources – while the aquamarine stands for the Caribbean sea surrounding the country. The black symbolizes the "strength, vigor, and force" of the Bahamian people, while the directed triangle evokes their "enterprising and determined" nature to cultivate the abundant natural resources on the land and in the sea.

This flag was adopted on July 10, 1973.

Beauty, warmth and fun for all the Cayman Islands.

There is a recipe on the back for Green Turtle Stew...

Green Turtle Stew

2 pounds turtle meat
4 onions, chopped
6 ripe tomatoes, chopped
1 can (16 ounces) peeled tomatoes
4 sprigs chives, minced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup red wine
1/2 hot pepper, seeded and chopped
1 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 teaspoon browning
dash freshly ground petter
dash salt
vegetable oil
4 medium limes, juiced

Wash turtle meat with lime juice and water.  Season with onion, tomato, chives, garlic and wine.  Marinate overnight in refrigerator.  In a large pot, add a little oil.  Remove chives, garlic and onions and fry them in a pot.  Add the turtle meat and fry for about 15 minutes.  Add browning and hot pepper.  Simmer for about 2 hours.  Add pepper and salt to taste.  Serve hot over white rice.
