This 'H.S. Crocker' postcard is unused.

A Divi-divi tree (Libidibia coriaria) is native to the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and northern South America.

They rarely reach their maximum height of 9 m (30 ft) because the growth is twisted and bent out of shape by the trade winds that batter the coastal sites where it often grows.

The Piasa Bird in Illinois

The Piasa Bird (pronounced PIE-A-Saw) is a local legend.   Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet on their journey down the Mississippi in 1673, described the bird like monster which is painted on the bluffs.  The Illini Indians name it "The Piasa", meaning a bird that devours men.

The sender writes:
Hello!  This isn't too far from where I live in Illinois.  There's nothing in the picture to give it size perspective, but it's actually quite large.

This postcard was postmarked in 2013 with two bird stamps... One that could have devoured people!

- - - - - - -

The legend:

This creature attacked and devoured people in a nearby Indian villages shortly after the corpses of a war gave it a taste for human flesh. The legend claims that a local Indian chief, named Chief Ouatoga, managed to slay the monster using a plan that came to him in a dream. The chief ordered his bravest warriors to hide near the entrance of the Piasa Bird's cave. Ouatoga then acted as bait to lure the creature out into the open. As the monster flew down toward the Indian chief, his warriors slew it with a volley of poisoned arrows.

The Quay House, Smallest House in Great Britain

The Smallest House in Great Britain

This vintage postcard is unused.

- - - - - - -

The Smallest House in Great Britain, also known as the Quay House, is a tourist attraction on the quay in Conwy, Wales.

The tiny home was created in the 16th century and remained in use until 1900, when the tenant was a 6-foot-3-inch (1.91 m) fisherman named Robert Jones. The rooms were too small for him to stand up in fully and he was eventually forced to move out when the council declared the house unfit for human habitation. The house is still owned by his descendants.

The house has a floor area of 3.05 by 1.8 metres (10.0 by 5.9 ft). The ground floor is devoted to the living area with room for coal and an open fire, and a water tap tucked behind the stairs. The upstairs holds the cramped bedroom, which also comes with a small space for storage.
