Bambi is a 1942 American animated film directed by David Hand (supervising a team of sequence directors), produced by Walt Disney and based on the book Bambi, A Life in the Woods by Austrian author Felix Salten. The film was released by RKO Radio Pictures on August 13, 1942, and is the fifth film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series.

Kookaburra from Australia

The Kookaburras belong to the family of the Kingfishers and are native to Australia and New Guinea, but only the Australian one is famous for its unmistakable laughing call.  They feed on insects, snakes, frogs and other small animals.

Ollie, Syd and Millie, designed by Matthew Hattan, are three native Australian animals chosen as mascots for the Sydney 2000 Games. They represent earth, air and water. "Olly", a kookaburra, epitomizes the Olympic spirit of generosity and universal generosity (from Olympic); "Syd", a platypus, represents the environment and captures the vigor and energy of Australia and its people (from Sydney); "Millie", an echidna, is a techno-whiz and information guru, with all the facts and figures at her fingertips (from Millennium).

London 2012 Official Mascots: Wenlock and Mandeville

Wenlock and Mandeville are the official mascots for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics being held in London, United Kingdom.

The mascots were unveiled on 19 May 2010; this marks the second time (after Vancouver's Miga, Quatchi, Sumi and Mukmuk) that both Olympic and Paralympic mascots were unveiled at the same time. The mascots were created and designed by iris, a London-based creative agency.

Wenlock:

Wenlock’s name is inspired by Much Wenlock in Shropshire, England, where the Wenlock Olympian Society held its first Olympian Games in 1850, regarded as an inspiration for the modern Olympic games

Mandeville:

Mandeville's name comes from the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England which organised the Stoke Mandeville Games in 1948, a competition for injured soldiers; they are regarded as the inspiration for the Paralympics.

Bob Carey and the Tutu Project for Breast Cancer

It's all about a man, his pink tutu and raising funds for women with breast cancer.

This unused postcard was bought on his website in 2012.

There is no description on the back of this postcard, but the sender wrote me that this is Bob Carey.  He is a photographer who's wife had breast cancer, so to cheer her up and to raise money for breast cancer research, he would dress up in a pink tutu and take pictures of himself.  I have to tell you, if my husband did this, I would laugh pretty hard! (for the record, my hubby would do it :)

I think what he is doing is fan-flippin-tastic!!   As far as I know, his wife is better now, but he is still raising thousands of dollars through his website: http://thetutuproject.com

For a donation of 5.00 or more (plus some change for the stamp etc) he will mail you a postcard in an envelope.   I made my donation and received the postcard at the top of this blog entry.  He had on his site at that time that he will autograph the postcards, but I don't think he autographs them anymore.

As for the location - I figured out this was the boardwalk on Coney Island and that is the Astroland Rocket on the left hand side of the card.

This is postmarked in 2012 with a USA Statue of Liberty Stamp.

The Katy Trail State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Missouri that contains the Katy Trail, a recreational rail trail that runs 240 miles (386 km) in the right-of-way of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. Running largely along the northern bank of the Missouri River, it is the country's longest Rails-to-Trails trail. (unused train tracks that are converted into hiking trails)

Sections of the Katy are also part of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and the American Discovery Trail.

Albuquerque is the largest city in the state of New Mexico, United States.

It contains a variety of museums, galleries, shops and other points of interest. Some of these include the Albuquerque Biological Park, Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, Museum of Natural History and Science, and Old Town Albuquerque. The majority of locally owned boutiques and fine dining establishments are scattered throughout Downtown, Old Town, and Uptown. Old Town features ghost tours performed by the Southwest Ghosthunters Association.

The Sandia and Manzano Mountains to the east offer trails, open spaces, and rock climbing. Climbs from one to ten pitches can be found at all ability levels. The Sandia Peak Tramway, located adjacent to Albuquerque is the world's second-longest passenger aerial tramway.  It stretches from the Northeast edge of the city to the crestline of the Sandia Mountains. Elevation at the top of the tramway is roughly 10,300 ft (3,100 m). above sea level.
