The Aboriginal inhabitants of the Wagga Wagga region were the Wiradjuri people and the term "Wagga" in the Wiradjuri aboriginal language is thought to mean crow. To create the plural, the Wiradjuri repeat a word, thus 'Wagga Wagga' translates to 'the place of many crows'.

Hook Lighthouse in Wexford, Ireland

Hook Lighthouse, Wexford

Hook Head:  This long narrow rock-bound peninsula is situated to the south-west of  Fethard and is noted for the beauty of the corals found in the carboniferous limestone.  The Hook Head Lighthouse guards the approach to Waterford harbour.  There are some interesting remains of castles and churches in the district.  The rocky promontory of Baginbun was the scene of the Anglo-Norman landing which preceded the main invasion force of 1170 when they came for the conquest of Ireland.

Yankee Doodle Dandy

Yankee Doodle

Father and I went down to camp. A-long with Captain Goddwin
And there we saw the men and boys As thick as hast-ly pud-ding
Yan-kee doo-dle keep it up.  Yan-kee doo-dle dan-dy.
Mind the mu-sic and the step. And with the girls be handy.

This patriotic sheet music postcard is embossed and is postmarked in 1913 with a one cent stamp.

"Yankee Doodle" is a well-known American song, the origin of which dates back to the Seven Years' War in the mid 1700’s.

The first verse is also a children’s nursery rhyme:
Yankee Doodle went to town
Riding on a pony;
He stuck a feather in his hat,
And called it *‘macaroni’

*A macaroni in mid-18th century England, was a fashionable fellow who dressed and even spoke in outlandish ways, so much so as to lose his look of masculinity.

Brunswick Stew Recipe from St. Simon Isle, Georgia

Brunswick, Georgia
This is the original pot the first Brunswick Stew was made in.  It is a popular Southern recipe that originated on St. Simons Island, Georgia, on July 2, 1898.

1 1/2 pounds chicken cut into bite size pieces
1/2 pound pork cut into bite size pieces
Paprika to taste

Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle

Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle

The Hawaiian Green Seat Turtle, or honu, is listed as an endangered species.

This unused postcard was bought in 2012.

- - - - - - - -

Like other sea turtles, green sea turtles migrate long distances between feeding grounds and hatching beaches. Many islands worldwide are known as Turtle Island due to green sea turtles nesting on their beaches. Females crawl out on beaches, dig nests and lay eggs during the night. Later, hatchlings emerge and scramble into the water. Those that reach maturity may live to eighty years in the wild.
