Jarash, Jerash, The city of 1000 columns in Jordan

Jarash

This postcard is postmarked in 2015 with three stamps from Jordan.

- - - - - - - -

Jerash is the capital and largest city of Jerash Governorate which is situated in the north of Jordan

A strong earthquake in 749 AD destroyed large parts of Jerash, while subsequent earthquakes along with the wars and turmoil contributed to additional destruction. Its destruction and ruins remained buried in the soil for hundreds of years until they were discovered by German Orientalist Ulrich Jasper Seetzen in 1806.  Now there is a population of around 42,000 people in the city.

Jarash has two nicknames: 'Pompeii of the East' and 'The city of 1000 columns'.

The Tower of London, in England, The Regalia, Crown Jewels

Tower of London.
The Regalia.

The Regalia is situated in the Wakefield Tower and contains the crown jewels preserved in a glass case protected by a strong iron cage.  Here are some most interesting relics of former English Kings and Queens.  The total value of the Regalia is estimated at three million pounds. (You can be sure that figure is a lot higher now!)

This postcard is from the C.F. Castle's "Lesco Series".  Although this is a vintage postcard is from England, it was postmarked in 2015 from the Netherlands.

- - - - - - -

The Crown Jewels have been kept at the Tower of London since 1303 after they were stolen from Westminster Abbey. It is thought that most, if not all, were recovered shortly afterwards. After the coronation of Charles II, they were locked away and shown for a viewing fee paid to a custodian. However, this arrangement ended when someone attempted to steal the Crown Jewels after having bound and gagged the custodian. Thereafter, the Crown Jewels were kept in a part of the Tower known as Jewel House, where armed guards defend them.

Homo Reptilia - Aliens from Doctor Who

"Homo Reptilia, warrior class ... A new type of Silurian, different tribe.
BBC - Doctor Who

This postcard is postmarked in 2015 with two space (:) stamps from 1981, but I think these Silurians are from the 2010 two-part episodes: "The Hungry Earth" and "Cold Blood".

- - - - - - -

The first Silurians introduced are depicted as prehistoric and scientifically advanced sentient humanoids who predate the dawn of man; in their backstory, the Silurians went into self-induced hibernation to survive what they predicted to be a large geological upheaval caused by the Earth capturing the Moon.
