The Best Strawberry Shortcake
Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake
Serves 6
6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1/3 cup plus 2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 stick chilled unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 large egg
1/4 cup whole milk
Sliced fresh strawberries
Chocolate sauce
Sweetened whipped cream
Preheat over to 375 degrees F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Blend chocolate and 1/3 cup sugar in processor until chocolate is finely ground. Add flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; process until combined. Add butter; process just until mixture forms fine crumbs. Mix egg with milk; pour over mixture in processor. Pulse to combine. Spoon dough onto baking sheet into six 3-inch mounds. Sprinkle with 2 teaspoons sugar. Bake 18 minutes. Cool shortcakes on rack.
Cut shortcakes in half horizontally. Top bottom halves with berries, sauce, cream, and shortcake tops.
