18 July Avenue is the main street in the city of Montevideo , and it has some of the most important and historical buildings in the city. You will also find numerous galleries and "expos", supermarkets, restaurants, shopping malls, banks and shops of various kinds. Its name comes from the date on which the people of Uruguay celebrate the first National Constitution - - 18 July 1830 .

José Gervasio Artigas Arnal (June 19, 1764 – September 23, 1850) is a national hero of Uruguay, sometimes called "the father of Uruguayan independence".
