Minsk is the capital and largest city in Belarus, situated on the Svislach and Nemiga rivers and in 2009 had a population of 1,836,808 people.
The earliest references to Minsk date to the 11th century (1067), when it was a provincial city within the principality of Polotsk.
If you look at a list of 'who's who' from Minsk, you will see a lot of chess masters! So my guess is, a lot of smart people live in Minsk :D
