Sumazau Dancers in Malaysia

Malaysia

In the Sumazau, the dancers move their arms to imitate the flapping wings of birds.  Performed by men and women, it is the national dance of Kadazan-Dusun community of Sabah.

This was postmarked with a 'Man and Woman in traditional Chinese clothing' 50 Sen Malaysia stamp in 2007.

Sumazau is a traditional folk dance of Sabah and is well known in and around Malaysia . It is a Kadazandusun traditional dance which is often presented at the Tadau Harvest Festival.

This elegantly dance inspiration comes from eagle flight patterns seen around farms in rice fields during the harvest. Each dancer is to move a few centimeters from the other dancers without contact.
