Apollo 17 was the final mission of NASA's Apollo program. The astronaut crew was made up of Commander Eugene Cernan, Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans, and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt.

Apollo 17 was the first night launch of a U.S. human spaceflight and the final manned launch of a Saturn V rocket.

Zarcero is the capital city of the canton of Alfaro Ruiz in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica. It is also the name of the district that includes the city.

Parque Francisco Alvarado: The park sits in front of the church at the town center. It is known for its topiary garden produced and maintained by Evangelisto Blanco since the 1960s. Shrubs in the park have been trimmed into the shapes of various animals, including some that are quite abstract and bizarre.

This unused postcard features Orville from Albatross Airlines with Bernard and Miss Bianca from the Disney movie The Rescuers.

The Rescuers, released on June 22, 1977, was Disney's 23 animated movie.

The film is about two mice, Bernard and his co-agent Miss Bianca, and how they rescue Penny, an orphan girl being held prisoner by Madame Medusa.

The film is based on a series of books by Margery Sharp.

Kea Parrot from New Zealand

Kea
New Zealand's famous mountain parrot.  These audacious birds often live around the snowline, apparently knowing no cold or fear.  Easily approached and fed, they eat all kinds of things - especially bright, shiny, chewy, or colorful objects..... that may be attached to your car.  Although amusing, they are potentially destructive and dangerous - anything could get pecked, including eyes (colourful and shiny).

This postcard was postmarked in 2017 with a bird stamp.

A Wizard is Never Late

This postcard features Gandalf from Lord of the Rings and was postmarked from Russia in 2018.

Although mainly known as Gandalf, the character has a number of names in Tolkien's writings. Gandalf himself says, "Many are my names in many countries. Mithrandir among the Elves, Tharkûn to the Dwarves, Olórin I was in my youth in the West that is forgotten, in the South Incánus, in the North Gandalf; to the East I go not."

At times in The Lord of the Rings, other characters address Gandalf by nicknames, usually disparaging: hence Stormcrow, Láthspell, and Grey Fool. Láthspell means 'Ill-news' in Old English.

Cincinnati Chili Recipe

Famous Cincinnati Chili

1 1/2 lean ground beef
1 (29 ounce can) tomato sauce
1 (14 1/2 ounce can) peeled whole tomatoes
small onion, chopped
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 toe garlic (one clove)
3 bay leaves

Directions:
Brown meat - cook onions with meat - drain grease.
Place meat and onions in large pan or crock pot.  Add rest of ingredients.  Cook slowly 4-5 hours, covered.  Remove bay leaves and garlic before serving.  Serve on a bed of spaghetti and top with grated cheddar cheese.  Serves 6-8

Happy International Postcard Week 2021 !!

This year I decided to highlight our local farmers market in Greenville, Alabama, USA.  My husband and I have been growing and making things to sell here three days a week.  We have met a lot of wonderful people including the lovely lady you see on the front of this postcard. If you have a local farmers market, I would like to encourage you to visit it and see all the wonderful things they have to offer.  You never know, you just might find your new favorite food!

Two English Mastiff Dogs and Flat Stanley

This was a postcard from Costa Rica that my sister taped a picture of two of my English Mastiff dogs to that were posing with Flat Stanly.   When her daughter did Flat Stanly for school, she sent it to me to take on my trip to Costa Rica.  I sent Stanly back with many great pictures, and a bunch of bookmarks and coins from my trip for her classmates.  I am pretty sure I had more fun taking the pics and gathering the items than she had bringing them to her school!
