Opatija, Croatia

Opatija, Croatia

This is postmarked in 2009 with a Croatia stamp.

The sender writes that Opatija is an old touristic town and fashionable destination for the Austrian Imperial family and Austrian Nobility until 1918.

Opatija is a popular summer and winter resort that is surrounded by the beautiful woods of bay laurel with the north being the whole sea-coast.

Opatija is known for the Maiden with the seagull, a statue by Zvonko Car (1956). (The back of the statue is shown in the postcard.)
