Canton Ticino or Ticino is the southernmost canton of Switzerland. Named after the Ticino river, it is the only canton in which Italian is the sole official language. Together with areas of the canton of Graubünden (Grigioni) it makes up the so-called Italian Switzerland.
The climate of Ticino, while remaining alpine, is noticeably milder than the rest of Switzerland's. Additionally, Ticino is prone to fierce storms and has the highest level of lightning discharge in the whole of Europe.
