Clint Eastwood

Clint Eastwood

postmarked with Suomi Finland 'bird' stamp in 2008

---------

Clinton "Clint" Eastwood, Jr. (born May 31, 1930) is an Academy Award-winning American actor and filmmaker.

Eastwood is best-known as an actor for his tough guy, anti-hero acting roles in action and western films, particularly in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. His performances as the laconic Man with No Name in Sergio Leone's "Dollars trilogy" of spaghetti westerns which include A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), and as Inspector Harry Callahan in the Dirty Harry films have seen him become an enduring icon of masculinity.

Eastwood has won five Academy Awards—twice each as Best Director and as producer of the Best Picture and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1995. He has also been nominated twice for Best Actor, for his performances in Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby.

Eastwood also has an interest in politics; he was elected Mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, serving from 1986 to 1988.

Universal Studios, Earthquake Ride

Universal Studios -Florida

Earthquake - The Big One
Brace yourself as ceilings collapse, subway cars crash, and gasoline trucks explode in an authentic earthquake registering 8.3 on the Richter Scale.

Postmarked in 2008 with a US 41 cent flower stamp, a Liberty forever stamp, AND a 10 cent 'American Clock' stamp

On a side note:
This ride is no longer there. It was replaced with "Disaster! A major motion picture ride....starring you."
I like them both, but the special effects are better on the newer version of the ride.

Hell, Norway

Hell, Norway

postcard reads:
Norge. (Norway)
Aftenstemming Hell st..

Foto: Aune Forlag

I LOVE this postcard! When it came in the mail I called all my friends and said, "Well, I've never been to Hell, but I have a postcard from there!" LOL!

postmarked in 2008 with a Norge (Norway) racing car stamp

- - - - - - -

Hell is a small village in Stjørdal, Norway with a population of 352. It has become a minor tourist attraction because of its name, since people like to take the train there to get photographed in front of the station sign. The station sign reads "Gods-expedition", an old spelling of the Norwegian word for "cargo handling" (godsekspedisjon would be the current spelling).

The name Hell stems from the Old Norse word hellir, which means "overhang", "cliff cave". The Norwegian word hell can also mean "luck". The Old Norse word Hel is the same as today's English Hell, and as a proper noun, Hel was the ruler of Hel. In modern Norwegian the word for hell is helvete. The Norwegian word for "god" is gud.

a little information in English:

Villefranche-de-Conflent (Catalan Vilafranca de Conflent) is a small walled town in the Pyrénées-Orientales département, southwestern France.

The town is tightly packed within the original castle walls and is bounded on one side by the road running up into the Cerdagne and on the other by the Conflent.

If anyone has any translations, or more information, please add it. This looks like it would be a fun place to visit!

A Bird on a Postcard that Squeaks

A Black and Red Bird Flying

Souvenir Post Card
Printed in Japan.

This vintage postcard is unused.

A 'Squeaker' postcard is a card that has two pieced that have been sealed together at the edges.  Inside there is a squeaker, just like then ones you find in small dog toys. There is also a small hole in the back of the postcard to let air in and out of the squeaker.   When you pinch the postcard, it makes a squeaking noise!

I uploaded a little video of a few squeaker postcards here ...

New Zealand Map

New Zealand Map...

New Zealand consist of three main islands in the South Pacific Ocean, the North, South and Stewart Islands covering an area of approximately 268,000 square kilometres and having a population of over 4 million people of mainly European, Maori and Polynesian blood. For all its small size however, New Zealand is a land full of contrasting scenic beauty which makes it unique in the world. High mountains, low plains, fiords, forests, glaciers and roaring rivers abound, most within a short distance of the towns and cities. It is a sportsman's paradise in which any outdoor sport can be accommodated. As New Zealanders say it is "God's Own Country".
