The Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Florida

Did you know?
The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is the world's longest cable-stayed bridge (A cable-stayed bridge is a bridge that consists of one or more pillars, with cables supporting the roadbed), with a length of 29,040 feet or nearly 5.6 miles.

It is constructed of steel and concrete.  Its longest span is 1200 feet (366 m), which is 190 feet (58 m) over the water.

Construction of the current bridge began in 1982 and was completed in 1987, at a cost of $245 million.

The Kentucky Horse Park is a twelve-acre educational theme park.  It was created to honor the animal whose name has become synonymous with the Bluegrass.  The International Museum of the Horse is located here - the most comprehensive equestrian museum in the world.

The koala is a nocturnal, tree-dwelling marsupial mammal, which feeds almost exclusively on the leaves of a few species of eucalypt.  It consumes up to 1 kg of leaves daily, peak feeding being at sunset.

This has writing on it but was never mailed.  It was bought in 2009.

the sender writes:
Belgrade is our capital. Its Serbian name (Beograd) means "the white city". The central photos show the City Hall and the park behind it. It's one of the most beautiful buildings in the city and it was a Royal Palace in the 19th century. In the left corner is the church of St Sara - the biggest orthodox church in Serbia and one of the biggest in the world. In the upper right corner is the hotel "Moscow", built in the beginning of the 20th century.

Mount Song in China

Mount Song, is one of the Five Sacred Mountains of Taoism and is located in Henan province on the south bank of the Yellow River in China. Its summit is 1,500 meters above sea level.

The Historic Monuments of Mount Song are listed with UNESCO.

From the USPS (United States Postal Service) 'Baseball Sluggers - Stamped Postcard Cards' set ......


Synonymous with the New York Yankees for nearly two decades, switch-hitter Mickey Mantle (1931-1995) hit 536 homers, including a record 18 home runs in World Series play. A three-time American League MVP, he won the Triple Crown in 1956.



Nicknamed "Campy," Roy Campanella (1921-1993) hit 242 home runs during his ten-year career with the Brooklyn Dodgers, the famous "Boys of Summer." A three-time National League MVP, he was also the first black catcher in the history of Major League Baseball.



Hank Greenberg (1911-1986) is remembered as one of the all-time greatest right-handed batters. During his time with the Detroit Tigers, "Hammerin' Hank" led the American League in home runs and in RBIs four times each, and he was twice named Most Valuable Player.



Known for his unusual but powerful high-leg-kick batting stance, Mel Ott (1909-1958) distinguished himself with the New York Giants for 22 seasons. Ott was the first National League player to hit 500 home runs, and he led the league in homers six times.

Balaton is actually the name of the lake.  The township that is shown is Tihany. The large building you see with the two towers is The Tihany Abbey.  It is a Benedictine monastery that was established in the Kingdom of Hungary in 1055.

The Temple of Hephaestus (shown in the upper left of the postcard), is a well-preserved Greek temple; it remains standing largely as built.  From the 7th century until 1834, it served as the Greek Orthodox church of St. George Akamates.

The church in the front of the card is:
The Church of the Holy Apostles, also known as Holy Apostles of Solaki, is located in the Ancient Agora of Athens, Greece, and can be dated to around the late 10th century.

Cape Sounion is a promontory located 69 km (43 mi, by road) SSE of Athens, at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula in Greece.

Cape Sounion is noted as the site of ruins of the ancient Greek temple of Poseidon, the god of the sea in classical mythology. The remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea.
