The Buffalo River Canyon Sign in Arkansas

Scenic Point
Buffalo River Canyon
Jasper, Arkansas

Arkansas Highway 7 reaches the summit of the Boston Mountains (elevation 2,169 ft.) at Scenic Point, south of Jasper.  The panoramic 180 degree view of the Buffalo River Canyon provides photographers with an "Arkansas Natural".

Photo by Charles and Joann Jordan

the sign reads:
Buffalo River Canyon - Arkansas
The summit of Mt Judea in the Boston Range of the Ozarks is 2169 feet above Sea Level.

The Buffalo River flows from west to east 1414 feet below this point - making this the deepest canyon in the Ozarks.

it is also the largest - lost in this canyon are the finest canoe waters in wilderness America.

Missouri is visible 40 miles due north - west to east is 50 miles - area 1.3 million acres.

An Act of Congress in 1972 preserved the Buffalo River for all time.

Port Isabel Lighthouse, Texas

23rd National Post Card Week
May 7-13, 2006

Port Isabel Lighthouse was built in 1853, and operated until 1905.  I was used by both the Confederate and Union forces during the Civil war for observation.  Now open to the public, it is operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife.  You may climb a spiral stairway (74) steps) to the top for a spectacular view across Laguna Madre to South Padre Islands.

Set your course for the Gulf of Mexico and sail into the port for a visit to the Rio Grande Valley.

Indian Graveyard on Madeline Island

Indian Graveyard on Madeline Island
La Pointe, Wisconsin

One of the many interesting landmarks on Madeline Island, is the old Indian graveyard, where the burial sites are covered and protected by roofed shelters, and surrounded by tiny weathered picket fences. A bronze tablet marks the site of Treaty Hall, where the peace pact between the Ojibways and the United States was finally signed.

This postcard was postmarked in 1990 with 15 cent 'Buffalo Bill Cody' stamp.

Poison dart frog is the common name of a group of frogs in the family Dendrobatidae which are native to Central and South America. These species often have brightly-colored bodies. Although all wild poison dart frogs are at least somewhat toxic, levels of toxicity vary considerably from one species to the next and from one population to another.

Many species are critically endangered.

World's Fastest Car in 1939 (salt bag attached)

Oversized - Postcard of Bonneville Salt Flats with Salt!
The Bonneville Salt Flats is a salt deposit left by the receding of ancient Lake Bonneville. This deposit covers about 159 square miles extending some nine miles along U.S. Highways 40 and 50 and the Western Pacific railroad. The salt is white, crystalline aggregate, porous, hard and rigid so that it supports loaded trucks. In 1912 this area was tested as a race track and has since proved to be the greatest automobile speedway in the world. In 1931 Ab Jenkins of Salt Lake City broke all former world speed records. Here on September 15, 1938, John Cobb established a record of 350.07 miles per hour. The next day Captain G.E.T. Eystone set a world's record of 357.50 miles per hour. Aug. 26, 1939, John Cobb again became the world's automobile speed king by driving his card 369.74 miles per hour.
The card also has, at the bottom, You are invited to attend Utah's centennial in 1947
attached is a small bag with Salt from the Great Salt Lake Utah. this postcard is unused
