Saint Michael Church in Dijon, France

Dijon

L'eglise Saint-Michel
(Saint-Michel Church)

Photo: Olivier Anger

This postcard is postmarked in 2015 from France.

The first mention of the Saint-Michel church in Dijon was in the year 889. At that time it was probably originally a simple wooden chapel. When it became too small in 1020 it was replaced by the bishop of Langres, Lambert Bassigny.

Once again in 1497  it had become too small to accommodate all the faithful so they decided to build a new church. The new church was consecrated on July 29 1529. However, it was not until 1667 after the completion of the main facade that the church took on its final form.

This real-photo postcard is postmarked around 1955.

The sender writes:
All continues to go well.  Africa is almost beyond belief for the boys as well as myself.  We have an interview with the king tomorrow.  As he rarely grants them to visitors, we are all quite excited.

Haile Selassie I  (23 July 1892 – 27 August 1975), was Ethiopia's regent from 1916 to 1930 and Emperor from 1930 to 1974.

He is on the stamps that are on the back of this postcard.  I wonder if this is who they were able to interview???
