Shakespeare's Hamlet: To Be or Not To Be, In A Skull *Read under the Stamp!

Hamlet by William Shakespeare

To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer 1750
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them. To die- to sleep-
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to. 'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die- to sleep.
To sleep- perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub!
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.

This brilliant postcard features a quote from Hamlet and the worlds are written to make the shape of a skull.  It is postmarked in 2015 with a 'matching' stamp from the Royal Shakespeare Company in England. On the stamp Hamlet is played by David Tennant in 2008. (He also played the 10th Dr. in the Doctor Who television series)

The scene with the monolog is from Act III and the scene with the skull is in act V.  The reason they are usually shown together is they are the two most iconic parts of the play.

The Three Stooges

Moe  Larry  Curly

This unused postcard was printed in 2010.  The image is the scene from the opening credits of their television show (1960–1972).

The Three Stooges act began as part of a mid-1920s vaudeville comedy act, billed as Ted Healy and his Stooges, consisting of Healy, Moe Howard, his brother Shemp Howard, and Larry Fine. The four made one feature film, Soup to Nuts, before Shemp left to pursue a solo career. He was replaced by his younger brother, Jerome (Curly Howard), in 1932. Two years later, the trio left Healy and signed on to appear in their own short subjects for Columbia, now billed as "The Three Stooges".

US Mail Stage at High Tide on the Oregon Coast, circa 1915

The Mail must get thought, circa 1915
These brave and persistent mail carriers from the past race the surging tide to make their appointed rounds.  Up until the early 1930's the road systems along the Oregon Coast consisted of Indian trails and a few very muddy roads.  So the vast stretches of sandy beach along the Oregon Coast served as roads for all manner of transpiration north and south.

Originating as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age (17th century), a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading center for finance and diamonds.

Piccadilly Circus, London, England in 1978

Piccadilly Circus, London

Photo: D. Nobble, John Hinde Studios

For many people London means Mayfair, Park Lane, Pall Mall, Knights-bridge and Piccadilly Circus.  All these places fall within the boundaries of what is loosely called the 'West End'.  London night-life used to revolve around the statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus - but the scene has been moving gradually westwards.  Nowadays you're more likely to find the 'jetset' in a Chelsea discotheque - though they may return to Piccadilly to take in the odd continental movie at the old Windmill Theatre.

This postcard is postmarked in 1978.

Piccadilly Circus is a road junction and public space that was built in 1819 to connect Regent Street with Piccadilly. In this context, a circus, from the Latin word meaning "circle", is a round open space at a street junction.

The Insignia / Emblem for NASA's 41-C, Space Shuttle Challenger

41-C Crew Insignia

The patch to be worn by the five members of NASA's 41-C space mission tells the story of that flight.  It features a helmet visor of an astronaut performing extravehicular activity.  In the visor are reflected the sun's rays, the Challenger and its remote manipulator system (RMS) deploying the long duration exposure facility (LDEF), the Earth and blue sky, and another astronaut working at the damaged Solar Maximum Satellite (SMS).  The scene is encircled by the surnames of the crew members.  They are Astronauts Robert L. Crippen, commander; Francis R. (Dick) Scobbe, pilot; and Terry J. Hart, James D. Van Hoften and George D. Nelson, all mission specialists.

I started looking on line at all the different balloon activities and there are MANY!  I had no idea.  There is even a World Balloon Convention every year.  The sculptures are amazing.  However, it seams none of the artists are good at taking videos, so there are none worthy to share here.

If you are interested is seeing some of the balloon art though, I highly recommend you do a computer search for large balloon sculptures.  Beware, it is a bit of a time killer though once you start.  I ended up looking at videos and pictures for far much more time than I care to admit to.
