Disney's Castaway Cay and the Flying Dutchman

Disney's Castaway Cay, Bahamas

The ship is the Flying Dutchman used in The Pirates of the Caribbean.  It is docked on Disney's private island for their cruise ships.  You can see it from a short distance, but no one is allowed to get close enough to even have a chance of touching it or seeing the inside.

This unused postcard was bought in 2010.

The Flying Dutchman, or simply referred to as the Dutchman, is a powerful ship of the Caribbean seas in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean. The ship made its first appearance in Dead Man's Chest under the command of the fictional captain, Davy Jones. The story of the ship was inspired by the actual Flying Dutchman of nautical lore.

The legend of the Flying Dutchman concerns a ghost ship that can never make port, doomed to sail the oceans forever.  The oldest version dates to the late 18th century.
Sightings in the 19th and 20th centuries report the ship to be glowing with ghostly light. It is said that if hailed by another ship, its crew will try to send messages to land or to people long dead. In ocean lore, the sight of this phantom ship means doom is coming soon.
