The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located in Central Park facing 5th Avenue. The first permanent building centre of present group was occupied in 1880, additions were made in 1889 and 1894. The East wing was added in 1901 at a cost of 2,000,000. Was designed to cover 18 1/2 acres and cost 20,000,000. Under the presidency of J. Pierpont Morgan it has become one of the richest museums in the world.
