The tuatara is a reptile from New Zealand.  They are greenish brown and gray, and measure up to 80 cm (31 in) from head to tail-tip and weigh up to 1.3 kg (2.9 lb).

The name "tuatara" derives from the Māori language, and means "peaks on the back".

Otorohanga Kiwi House started in 1971 with the dream to rescue New Zealand's unique birds and reptiles from the ravages of predators and de-forestation. They now have New Zealand's largest private collection of native birds.
