Vieste, Italy

The sender writes:

We are writing from Vieste.  This place is in the south of Italy.  As you can see in this postcard, it has many beaches...And now (summer time) it is FULL of tourists!

This card is postmarked in 2015 with only a 0,01 stamp.  There is a large X drawn under the stamp with some letters.  I am thinking this is Italy's way of saying 'postage due'.

In mediaeval times, the port of Vieste was frequently attacked by pirates and by enemies of the Kingdom of Naples. In 1554 around 5,000 inhabitants were executed by the Turks, on the grounds that they were too elderly or sick to merit transportation into slavery.
