The Sarawak State Museum is the oldest museum in Borneo.

It was built in 1891 and was extended to its present form in 1911. The building was especially built to permanently house and display local native arts and crafts and collections of local animals as mainly encouraged by the famous naturalist, Alfred Wallace, who was then collecting specimens in the state.

Borneo:

Borneo is the third largest island in the world and is located at the center of Maritime Southeast Asia.

It is divided administratively into 3 parts, the only island in the world that is a recognised part of 3 countries:

1. The Indonesian provinces of East, South, West and Central Kalimantan
2. The Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak (the Federal Territory of Labuan is located on nearshore islands of Borneo, but not on the island of Borneo itself)
3. The independent country of Brunei (main part and eastern exclave of Temburong)

The whole Borneo thing is murky. Not much is honest or true. There is a Dutch element.Everyone acuses the other. The crisis in Mindanow factor too.
What seems as a paradise has deep dangers lurking. Now Brunei has come in and this makes a very alluring image. There is a lot of fundamentalism involved. One long perceived idea was the concept of learning would reduce the fiernes...not at all..the guys on the ground became more far sighted and are becoming tough to deal with.
